Why I joined the names

A personal note today, if I may.

This week I joined the Names by acquire Name #1074.

This is the culmination of a three-year journey for me. I started covering Nouns DAO on Metaversal right after their launch in 2021, and I’ve written about a dozen articles tracking the group’s progress since then.

Along the way, I joked that I had become the Nouns’ number one fan. Indeed, since my first article about them, I knew that I would eventually join the collective.

Why? For various reasons:

1) The smart contracts underlying the project are a work of Ethereum technical art in themselves and gave birth to the primitive “Nounish DAO”, which now has a significant footprint in the NFT space.

2) Nouns’ art is entirely onchain and, in my opinion, aesthetically and minimalistically wonderful as designed by some of the leading crypto-native artists, like Gremplin and Timpers.

3) Nouns is a growing grassroots brand that has supported initiatives in the fields of art, charity, esports, public goods and more. The collective funds things that no one else will do in a way that I personally find magical.

That said, Nouns is the kind of project that perfectly matches my tastes. Experimental, innovative, groundbreaking, impactful.

And to that, skeptics will say that $10,000 is a lot of money to spend to join a band. I completely understand that, but I have also been saving for three years for this moment, precisely because I believe in Nounish’s vision and dream.

Also, make no mistake, this is not about financial value. I will never resell this Noun (I will only trade it for another), and even if I did, it would not be for profit. Name inflation, or the one-name-per-day model, means that the floor price will undoubtedly tend to drop lower and lower over time, for the sake of affordability. And that is a good thing!

Ultimately, I joined Nouns now because it’s a project I wanted to be a part of and finally felt like I could afford to do. I couldn’t take it anymore! It’s a creative experience that appeals to me and I feel very fulfilled by finally joining because of the interesting work that awaits me.

So, to finish, my message to you is to find your passion in crypto like I did. Find a project you love and dive into it because you want to. Believe in something, dream big and work towards that vision. Good things will come as a result, in various ways.

Of course, the haters nihilistically believe that cryptocurrencies are just speculation games. The truth is that there are many areas of compelling cultural endeavor here, and the Nouns are a perfect demonstration of that.

To that I say: find your names, find what excites you in crypto, whatever it may be, and dive in. Be patient and methodical, and your journey will come to you…
