Ubisoft to Implement NFTs in Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles

Published

on

Ubisoft has announced a new partnership with doublejump.tokyo for its upcoming NFT RPG, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, doubling down on its efforts with Implementing NFTs in Gamesdespite NFTs are a clear market failure. This marks the continuation of his NFT initiative “Quartz” created in 2021.

Ubisoft’s new development isn’t too surprising. In November 2023, Ubisoft partnered with Immutable, another NFT-focused gaming company with a lineup of three existing NFT games. Given that these games are all built around NFT ownership, it stands to reason that Ubisoft’s planned games are Immutable and now Doublejump. Tokyo will also be centered around NFT ownership.

This puts Ubisoft’s own NFT initiative, dubbed Quartz when it was announced in December 2021, in an odd position. Ubisoft claimed that Quartz remained active as the underlying infrastructure at the time, but these partnerships suggest that Ubisoft is instead relying on Web3 partners for these needs.

At least it looks like Champions Tactics will be built on doublejump.tokyo’s backend rather than Ubisoft’s.

Champions Tactics – Alpha Gameplay Trailer – YouTube

To watch

Champions Tactics really does feel like a video game. If you’ve played a free-to-play card game for mobile or PC in the last five years, you’ve played it.

The gameplay trailer provided doesn’t give any information on how NFTs are implemented in Champions Tactics, though one can assume that Ubisoft’s announced partnership with “double jump. Tokyo” will allow them to properly implement blockchain in its most wasteful form in an RPG. Perhaps the announced “thousands of unique heroes” will correspond to NFTs.

Anyway, let’s take this story back a step Article from June 3 on doublejump.tokyo reveals a bit more information, along with some official websites, trailers, and Discord links. The most relevant information is that Champions Tactics will use the “HOME Verse” blockchain, managed by doublejump.tokyo and certified by Oasys. Doublejump.tokyo has also partnered with Square, Bandai Namco, and Sega for their NFT gaming projects, none of which have seen success.
