Ubisoft continues to try to create NFTs

Ubisoft has remained relatively quiet about its various blockchain initiatives following the launch of its controversial game NFT Platform “Quartz” in 2022, but the French publisher has not yet exhausted its possibilities.

The company, which previously claimed that players simply didn’t understand his NFT machinations, in partnership with Immutable in November last year to create a new title on the blockchain.

Today, it is partnering with Japanese web3 studio Double Jump Tokyo to support another upcoming web3 project and “accelerate the global adoption of web3 games.”

A Press release sent by Double Jump explains that Ubisoft has tapped the company to support Web3 integration and become a “key marketing partner” on the Champions Tactics multiplayer project when it arrives in Asia.

“As a first initiative, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles will integrate with the Oasys Layer 2 HOME Verse blockchain, developed and operated by Double Jump Tokyo,” the company explains.

This partnership will allow Ubisoft to issue new Champions Tactics NFTs, which take the form of unique profile pictures, on the HOME Verse channel.

The Assassin’s Creed creator has already minted 9,999 “Warlord” NFTs ahead of launch and plans to grant owners early access to an upcoming “Champions mint.” Warlords were free to claim, but owners had to pay a transaction fee to mint them on the Ethereum blockchain.

“A Warlord is a unique digital collectible that serves as both a unique in-game profile picture (PFP) and gives you exclusive early access to the next generation of playable figures in the game called Champions,” read a FAQexplaining how Ubisoft’s latest NFT system works.

Didier Genevois, technical director of Ubisoft web3, says that offering NFTs to Champions Tactics players will help “take gaming and entertainment to the next level.”

“Teaming up with Double Jump Tokyo is exciting as they bring not only technical expertise, but also a shared passion for the future of gaming,” he said. “We believe this partnership will provide valuable insights into how decentralized technology can combine with gaming. Together, we look forward to delivering high-quality, entertaining gameplay that leverages blockchain technology.”

Champions Tactics is currently slated for a release in “2024.” Given that we’re already halfway through the year, one might expect it to hit stores sooner rather than later.
