House of the Dragon Whiskey Recruits NFTs in Latest Release

HBO’s “House of the Dragon” is once again making its mark on the alcohol industry — and no, we’re not talking about Negroni sbagliato.
On Tuesday, Indri Distillery unveiled a duo of single malt whiskies on the theme of “Dragon” in partnership with Virtualityan authentication platform powered by blockchain and generative AI. In short, the collaboration involves a scannable QR code on the back of each bottle that directs users to an NFT certificate verifying their purchase. If we had to guess, we’d tend to think the NFTs will take the form of a virtual dragon or a character portrait.
Indri is a single malt whisky brand based in India.
The whiskies themselves are inspired by the series’ central feud between Princess Rhaeynara and Alicent Hightower. House of Black, a peated single malt said to embody “the fiery spirit of the Black Council,” balances aromas of creamy vanilla and raisins with flavors of fig, caramel, and chocolate. Meanwhile, the unpeated House of Green offers a nose of bananas and pineapples and a palate of nuts and dried fruits. Indri has yet to announce the alcohol content or age of either expression, which is expected to launch in high-end retail outlets in India for between ₹6,000 and ₹11,500 ($70 to $130).
“This collaboration exemplifies Indri’s commitment to innovation and delivering exceptional experiences to our customers,” said Siddhartha Sharma, founder of Piccadily Distilleries, in a press release. “By partnering with Virtualness, we ensure that customers have verifiability by claiming their certificate of ownership when purchasing a bottle of our exclusive Game of Thrones ‘House of The Dragon’ edition.”
Piccadily bills itself as the largest independent manufacturer and marketer of malt spirits in India. It produces a handful of brands, including Indri.
Led by the Sharma family of Piccadilly Distilleries, Indri hit the market in 2021 with what it describes as India’s most awarded triple cask single malt. With its latest bottling, the brand is making a foray into an ever-growing pantheon of Westeros-themed spirit releases.
Since its 2011 premiere, “Game of Thrones” and its spinoffs have inspired a genre of co-branded bottles featuring house symbols, three-eyed ravens and everything in between. A scour of the web reveals a dragon-sized beer catalog; fans can pick up countless beers with names like Iron Throne Blonde Ale and Seven Kingdoms Hoppy Wheat, a variety of wines of every hue and one particularly pun-worthy wine Johnnie Walker’s White Walker scotch whisky.
A handful of them turned out to be simply delicious. Scotch Clynelish Game of Thrones Edition — released alongside similar Thrones-centric bottlings from Lagavulin, Talisker and Cardhu Gold Reserve — impressed us upon release with a rich palette of caramel, freshly baked bread, honey and lingering plum notes.
