‘Final Fantasy’ Creator Square Enix Moves to Arbitrage for Ethereum Game NFTs
Square Enix, the video game giant behind the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts franchises, is adopting another Ethereum network scaling for its Symbiogenesis blockchain game.
The publisher announced Thursday morning that its next NFT character creation for the story-driven game will take place on the layer 2 Ethereum network Arbitrationshifting gears after the first wave of characters was created on the Ethereum mainnet.
“For Chapter 2, we adopted Arbitrum, reducing gas fees to approximately 1/1000 of the previous cost (approximately 1.3 yen per offer),” explains the official Symbiogenesis account. tweeted.
While the first NFT characters were created on Ethereum, all other NFT assets in the game were created on Polygon, an Ethereum sidechain scaling network. It’s unclear if Square Enix plans to continue using Polygon for future games, or if it will fully adopt Arbitrum in the future.
Decrypt‘s GG asked a Square Enix representative for clarification on this issue and the decision to use Arbitrum, but did not immediately receive a response.
Symbiogenesis is a narrative adventure game built around NFTs, featuring the aforementioned characters, as well as various in-game assets. However, only owners of character NFTs can access certain parts of the experience. There will be 10,000 characters in total for the game.
The first 500 characters were released on Ethereum in December, and Square Enix saw some mockery on social networks around curious names, like “Egg”, “Starvation” and “Wastebasket”. Currently, Ethereum NFTs start at a price below 0.12 ETH (around $445) on secondary markets.
A total of 1,500 new character NFTs will be released on Arbitrum starting Friday, May 31 via a public auction. The process will last three days and conclude on Sunday, with characters released in small batches over time. Square Enix released a Instruction Guide on the reconciliation of assets with Arbitrum One in preparation for the auction.
