ParallelA NFTcompetitive card game focused on Ethereumlaunched on Wednesday Epic Games Storepotentially reaching a much wider audience in the process.
The Epic Games Store is a major PC gaming marketplace, and had 270 million users at the end of 2023, including some 75 million monthly active users. Epic Games is the creator of the free-to-play shooter Fortnite and has acquired other games like Rocket League, but the store hosts games from a wide range of studios.
Parallel, which was GGthe choice of game of the year 2023expanded access earlier this year with the launch of an open beta of the game, following the previous closed beta.
The competitive trading card game is built around NFTs created on Ethereum and Basis of Layer 2 Scaling Network, although it also contains non-tokenized game cards. Players who download the free game from the Epic Games Store can unlock five additional “Spawn Packs” with the non-NFT cards.
In addition to opening up more avenues to play the game, including a mobile version planned of the game at one point, Parallel Studios, which raised $35 million in Marchand recently launched Parallel’s Planetfall expansion, is also expanding into esports with over $500,000 in prizes planned for the Parallel League’s first year of competition.
But there are more ambitious plans beyond, teased Franklin Fitch, head of partnerships.
“The parallel release on Epic opens the door for us to millions more players around the world,” Fitch said in a statement. “But we don’t plan to stop there. As we roll out more ways to access and play Parallel, we also plan to grow our competitive prize pool to millions of dollars next year.
Beyond Parallel, the company is also developing Colonyan upcoming AI-driven generative simulation game based on Solana.
