Doodles will migrate the “Stoodio” avatar creation to the Ethereum Layer-2 database
Doodles, a NFT-entertainment real estate, takes a step forward. On Monday, the project announced that it would migrate its avatar customization platform “Stoodio” to Ethereum layer 2 scaling network Baseleaving the To flow blockchain in the process.
The transition, expected to take place in mid-July, aims to take advantage of Base’s cheaper and faster transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet. Base, which was developed by the popular crypto exchange Coinbase, is gain momentum in the increasingly crowded field of Ethereum scaling networks.
The original doodles profile picture (PFP) will remain on Ethereum, and only the Stoodio and various NFT wearables and character customizations will move from Flow to Base.
Doodles CEO Julian Holguin told Decrypt that by leaving Flow, the project recovered in early 2023-was not due to any particular issues or complaints about the network behind NBA Overhead Shot and other applications, but had more to do with the project’s vision for the future.
“Flow was an incredible partner for us. They built some of the things that this space as a whole should be most proud of,” Holguin said. “I think ultimately it just came down to the fact that a lot of our existing community was in other locations.”
When asked what he meant by “existing community” found elsewhere, Holguin emphasized the desire for Stoodio to be where they believe there is the greatest chance of mass adoption.
“If we really want to build an internet-native, on-chain entertainment studio in the future, we need to create truly enriching and rich experiences for our core base,” he said.
With over a million followers across its social media channels and a total weekly audience averaging 25 million views for its animated content, Doodles aims to significantly expand its digital footprint on Base. The Stoodio platform, known for its rich range of digital wearables and collectibles, could benefit immensely from the vast reach of the Coinbase ecosystem.
“Doodles reaffirms its commitment to leading mainstream crypto adoption through this strategic partnership,” Holguin said. “Aligning with Coinbase and Base takes us back to our roots and propels our mission to make crypto more accessible and engaging.”
To mark the occasion, Doodles will be offering a unique free Mint Base NFT via Zora. This event will unlock exclusive content within Stoodio once the migration is complete. Details of the free mint will be announced soon, the company said.
Austin Hurwitz, head of business development and strategy at Doodles, shared his optimism about the collaboration. “We believe the next wave of crypto adoption will be driven by products that are not only easy to use, but also entertaining and valuable,” he said. “By joining forces with Coinbase and Base, we are taking a major step toward realizing this vision.”
This strategic change also aligns with Doodles’ strategy next animated short film, “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.” Scheduled for release in September, the film is directed by Doodles founder Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin and features music produced by Doodles brand manager Pharrell Williams. Musicians Lil Wayne and Coi Leray will also provide music and vocals.
“There’s a new steering wheel, and it’s a steering wheel that goes directly to the consumer, and it brings the community and the intellectual property creator a lot closer together,” Holguin said. “Web3 and crypto allow us to cut out many middlemen to create a richer ecosystem for us and our community.”
