CryptoPunks Faces Backlash While DMarket Leads NFT Sales
Monday’s top non-fungible token collection was DMarket, which saw sales of US$742,104, with 4,016 unique buyers and 3,648 sellers engaging in 34,740 transactions.
The second collection of the day, Fantasy Top, saw a sharp drop in daily sales to US$682,369 from the previous day’s US$1.80 million, according to CryptoSlam’s NFT rankings.
NodeMonkes took third place in the daily rankings, with sales totaling US$642,517, up from US$274,929 the previous Sunday. The collection attracted 33 unique buyers and 27 sellers, resulting in 34 transactions in total.
However, the most notable development of the day came from CryptoPunks, which recorded revenue of US$636,242 in fourth place.
CryptoPunks under Yuga Labs, the company that acquired the intellectual property for the collection in 2022, announcement its new Super Punk World NFTs which “blur the lines between race and gender and reflect on virtual and real identities”.
However, the new collection quickly garnered strong reactions from community members.
Some members criticized the artistic approach while others sparked controversy by calling it “woke” due to its focus on race and gender.
“Yuga will no longer touch punks” said Greg Solano, the company’s chief executive officer, responds to the public backlash. “They will simply be decentralized and kept on the blockchain.”
Yuga Labs’ flagship collection Bored Ape Yacht Club followed CryptoPunks in fifth place with US$502,064.
Both collections are part of the Ethereum blockchain, which reported daily total sales volume of more than US$6.35 million on Monday, leading all chains.
