Axie Homeland’s new avatar mode lets you explore Lunacia without owning any land

Sky Mavis has announced the open beta testing of its new product Axie’s Homeland Avatar Modewhich will finally allow players to explore Axie Infinitethe world of Lunacia without needing to own a Land NFT!

All players will need is to own an Axie NFT to start exploring this colorful isometric world populated with plots of player-owned land used for land-based gameplay. That means players will be able to practically enjoy what is essentially the studio’s first take on the metaverse, as it’s the first time the team has opened up a massive virtual world for anyone with an Axie NFT to explore and socialize with at their leisure. And starting July 17, you’ll briefly be able to do just that, without needing to own land at all.

How will the open beta test work?

From July 17th to July 24th, players will be able to jump into Avatar Mode, which lets you roam around the beautiful Homeland map using your Axie NFT. The goal of the 7-day period is to help test the servers, but to make it interesting for everyone, Sky Mavis will be hosting 4 events that will give participants the chance to win from a prize pool of 12 collectible Axies and 20 land items.

This build will give the community an early look at the development of this mode, which should serve as a foundation for a variety of new features to come. Available on Mavis Hub for Mac and Windows PC, players will be able to freely explore a variety of different plots as well as 4 starting villages: Goldenwind, Evergreen, Winterblue, and Hazymoon, each with their own distinct look. A new chat feature with emoji support is included to allow players to chat in real-time via general, local, and global channels.

When you start the mode, you’ll be able to choose which of your own Axies will represent you as your playable avatar, after which you can easily navigate the lush environments using your keyboard (WASD) or mouse (point-and-click).

The mode is divided into two exploration modes: World View and Plot View. Based on the images and information from the announcementWorld View appears to allow you to explore a basic overview of the entirety of Lunacia, going through plots owned by other players. This is where you can see the coordinates of your current location, as well as the coordinates of the plots around you. This means that if you’re a landowner wanting to show off your house to your friends, you can easily give them your coordinates so they can then enter them into a specific field to allow the game to walk their avatars to that location. You can also use the portals scattered throughout the world to teleport to another area for faster travel. Once the destination is reached, players can enter the plot they’re interested in to see what it looks like. This takes you to Plot View, giving you a detailed view of the NFT plot while also allowing you to explore it and enjoy the landowner’s village design with other players.

Once this testing phase is over, the mode will no longer be accessible for a while. Depending on how this beta goes, the developers plan to fully launch the mode in late July or early August, so it probably won’t be long before you can dive back into this metaverse-like mode. While this build focuses on exploring and chatting with other Lunacians, the developers are “committed to creating a rich and engaging social experience,” so we can probably expect some fun new features to eventually arrive in the future.

Win rewards in raffle events

Players will be able to participate in Village Meet-Up events every day from July 17 to 20. Each event is actually a random drawing that you enter by tweeting a screenshot of your favorite moment during the meet-up and adding #HomelandAvatar to the X post. It’s important to do this during the specified time period for the event, as rewards will only be drawn from those who posted to X “during the specified time period.” The location, time, and details of how the rewards will be distributed include the following:
