64-year-old Northampton Co. man stole $60,000 in cryptocurrency scam, cops say
A 64 year old East Allen Township The man fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam that netted him $60,000, state police said.
Pennsylvania State Police In Bethlehem said the man reported the incident on June 5. Investigators say the scheme involved the victim becoming involved with an investment group on an online app. The group offered members the ability to trade cryptocurrency options, police said.
The victim then invested $60,000 in what he believed was a legitimate investment platform, according to police. The fake platform began offering the victim a variety of investment plans, including individual investments with who it claimed were legitimate financial advisors, police said.
The victim reportedly agreed to pay a commission on the profits made after contacting who he thought was an investor. The victim was then deceived when profits were maximized and she was told that she had not paid the commission as agreed, state police said.
Eventually the victims’ accounts were blocked and all profits earned were no longer accessible.
